Recently the Ohio Board of Regents issued regulations regarding the new College Credit Plus program which replaces the SB140 Post Secondary education rule. Under the new bill, House Bill 487, the opportunity to earn college credit has been expanded to include students in grades 7-12.
Students who are college ready, as determined by the college, are eligible to participate in college classes to receive college credit that doubles as high school credit. Guidelines for participation are determined by the college of choice in accordance with college readiness standards.
Each year prior to Feb. 1 all students in grades 6-11 will be notified of an information meeting where local colleges can explain their admissions process. Prior to April 1 each year students must attend a meeting with me to outline program specifics and notify me in writing of their intent to participate in the program for the following school year. In addition some colleges will require an ACT score on file prior to April 1. Students can register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org and test sometime in December or February to ensure test results are back to meet the deadlines.
